All I wanted was an ordinary hike in the forest

listen now!

Ever listen to someone describe a day when nothing happened and quietly wish it were yours?

This week, join me in the Umoja bookstore for an espresso talk. I'm telling it from my own experience: a solo hike, a trip I didn't expect to feel ordinary, and a TV show I couldn't just relax into.

It's hard to experience or recognize an ordinary day as a Black woman living in a predominantly white space.

Today, I'm talking about what that costs.

How this episode can help:

  • Name the "quiet math" you may run in the background, so you know you're not imagining it.

  • Spot the good days you didn't get to enjoy because you were braced.

  • Think about what helps you put the weight down, and where you get to exhale.

Then come to the bookstore and tell me: what's one small, ordinary thing you'd love to do without carrying anything extra?

You Ain't Imagining This!
