Have You Heard of Keti Koti?

listen now!

Meet me in YAIT Town as we gather at Umoja Café, stroll through the Community Garden, and settle onto the Front Porch for a conversation about Keti Koti—a Black freedom celebration that changed the way I think about freedom. Together, we'll explore our shared history, the Freedom Gap, and what it means to keep practicing freedom today.

Have you ever heard of Keti Koti?

I hadn't—until I was invited to a celebration in the Netherlands that opened my eyes to another powerful Black freedom story.

In this episode, we'll meet in YAIT Town, begin our conversation at Umoja Café, walk through the Community Garden, and end on the Front Porch with Mr. Kojo, Auntie Octavia, Mrs. Alberta Jenkins, and some of our village's young people.

Together, we'll discover what Keti Koti is, why it matters, how it connects with Juneteenth, and what both celebrations can teach us about freedom, our shared history, and the work of closing the Freedom Gap.

Come walk with us.
